From script to screen.
The full producing lifecycle.

The HEARTH™ Film & Television Producing Lab develops producers from underrepresented communities through the complete lifecycle of television production. Participants work on their own projects — emerging from the program with a locked script, production budget, confirmed team, distribution strategy, and fundraising plan.

This is a two-version program. The 2026 Pre-Production Curriculum is the active launch — six months, virtual, for local participants in Philadelphia and Los Angeles. The 2027 Digital Series Cohort builds on it, producing a 6-episode digital series with the cohort as co-owners.

All participants sign a first-look arrangement with HEARTH™ — every project developed in the curriculum is a potential project HEARTH™ can develop further. This is not incidental. It is strategic.

Six months. Your project. The full lifecycle.

1
Apply — CEO reviews all applications. A brief interview is recommended given the 6-month commitment. Producing experience in any form is considered — no formal credits required.
2
Selection — CEO selects 8 producers per city (Philadelphia and Los Angeles cohorts curated separately). All participants sign a first-look arrangement before the curriculum begins.
3
Onboarding — Curriculum overview, tool access, and program expectations communicated. You’ll know exactly what you’re committing to.
4
Development Phase (Months 1–2) — Script development, story refinement, and television format mastery. Your project moves through the full development process.
5
Producing & Budgeting Phase (Months 2–4) — Production budget, scheduling, team building, and producing infrastructure. The practical mechanics of getting a project made.
6
Fundraising Phase (Months 3–5) — Fundraising strategy, grant research, and investor approach. Fundraising is a core curriculum component — every participant builds a real fundraising plan.
7
Distribution & Marketing Phase (Months 4–6) — Distribution strategy, release plan, and marketing approach tailored to your project and your audience.
8
Program Close (Month 6) — Final pre-production package presented per participant. Post-program survey completed. First-look conversation with HEARTH™ initiated within 30 days.

Who can apply

  • You have experience in or adjacent to the television or film industry — as a writer, director, PA, coordinator, or in any other capacity.
  • You can articulate a specific reason for wanting the producing role — not filmmaking generally, producing specifically.
  • You have an active television project or a clear concept you are developing. This curriculum builds around your project.
  • You understand that fundraising is a core component of this curriculum and you’re prepared to engage with it.
  • You can commit to the full 6-month curriculum with in-person attendance in your city (Philadelphia or Los Angeles).
  • You are a television-focused creator. This curriculum is specifically for television producing — film-only producers are not the right fit.
  • From underrepresented communities — HEARTH™ prioritizes Black, Latino, LGBTQ+, and working-class creators.
Two participant tracks:
Aspiring Producer — Industry-adjacent experience, ready to move into the producing role.
Working Creative Adding Producing — Already in the industry, adding producing skills and credits.
Location requirement: Philadelphia or Los Angeles residents only. In-person attendance is required. Remote-only participation is not available.
